Introduction to skin hydration boosters
With the passage of time, skin can become dry, and fine lines and wrinkles may appear. Skin hydration boosters are a type of aesthetic treatment used to increase skin hydration, improve skin elasticity, and reduce fine lines. As with any aesthetic treatment, the decision to receive skin boosters treatment should be made in consultation with a qualified healthcare practitioner.
Why skin hydration boosters?
Hyaluronic acid is a natural component of your skin that keeps it hydrated and soft. With age, or due to a harsh environment, the hyaluronic acid content in your skin may decrease, and your skin may lose some of its elasticity and hydration.
Skin hydration boosters restore the natural composition of your skin. It boosts skin elasticity and a reduction of skin roughness. Your skin becomes smooth and hydrated for a refreshed and healthy look.
TREATMENT AREAS
Skin hydration boosters are used to increase skin hydration in areas that have lost elasticity or where fine lines and wrinkles have started to appear. They are also used to improve skin imperfections, such as those caused by atrophic (depressed) acne scars. Skin hydration boosters can be used to refresh the skin on the face, neck, décolletage and hands.

The treatment
A typical program using skin hydration boosters involves three treatment sessions, two to four weeks apart. In some cases, improvement may be seen after the initial session, but the full effects are typically not visible until after the last session. The effects of treatment may still be visible 12 months after the initial treatment, depending on the treatment area, the product used and the characteristics of the individual.
After the initial treatments, medical practitioners may recommend a maintenance treatment every six months to ensure lasting results.
As with all medicines, skin boosters treatment can cause side effects. Your registered healthcare practitioner should inform you of these potential risks, as well as any side effects and contraindications prior to treatment. You should also ask to see the Patient Information leaflet and Aftercare brochure provided to practitioners. Skin hydration boosters are medical devices that are classified for professional use only and must be administered by qualified healthcare practitioners.
HOW IT WORKS
Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance that has a unique ability to bind water. It keeps your body tissues soft, hydrated and flexible.
Natural hyaluronic acid in the body quickly forms and degrades (in 24-48 hours). Galderma has used stabilization technologies that delay degradation by cross-linking the hyaluronic acid molecules. This way, the skin hydration boosters will form small “reservoirs” of moisture beneath the skin surface that will give you long-lasting hydration and radiance.
Skin hydration boosters are used to restore skin hydro-balance, improve skin structure and improve the elasticity of the skin. The below gallery shows examples of how patients appeared before and after treatment with skin hydration boosters.

FAQs
What are the possible side effects?
Serious side effects are not common. The most common post-treatment reaction is slight skin redness, swelling, itching, bruising or slight pain and tenderness at the treatment site. These reactions usually disappear shortly after each injection, within a few days. If these become troublesome or persistent, or you are concerned about any side effect, contact your cosmetic practitioner.
What does a skin hydration booster treatment involve?
Skin hydration boosters are administered by injection into the mid to deep dermis (the underlying layer) of the skin. During the procedure some people may experience a certain level of discomfort. Your practitioner may administer a topical anaesthetic prior to the treatment and/or use a product containing an anaesthetic that helps make the treatment more comfortable. A program using skin hydration boosters may involve several treatment sessions, each lasting 15-45 mins, at regular intervals to gain the optimal effect. The effects of treatment may still be visible 6-12 months after the initial treatment.
How long will the results last?
Following the initial treatment regimen, skin hydration boosters will increase skin, elasticity and continue to last for up to 6-12 months. Results may vary depending on the treatment area, the product selected and the characteristics of the individual.
Do I need maintenance treatments?
Your healthcare practitioner may recommend regular maintenance treatments after the initial 2-3 treatments to maintain skin hydration.
What should I apply or avoid after the treatment?
- Avoid applying make-up to the skin immediately after treatment.
- Light cover-up may be used to conceal any remaining redness after approximately 24 hours.
- A yellow-toned concealer may be used to hide signs of bruising, if any.
- In order to cover up any redness, a concealer with a slight green/yellow tone is recommended.
