Forehead and brow
We use our foreheads and brows to express a wide range of emotions – from concentration to surprise and anger. In younger people, the upper face is typically smooth and healthy-looking. Repeated use of muscles over time and a harsh environment can leave their mark with the appearance of frown lines and crow’s feet, causing our faces to look sad or angry regardless of how we feel.
The effects of ageing on the forehead and brow
Natural compounds including collagen, hyaluronic acid and elastin help to give young skin its full and firm appearance. From our twenties onwards, production of these compounds steadily decreases, leading to a loss of elasticity and firmness and the formation of wrinkles. During our thirties and forties, frown lines (glabellar lines) may appear in the brow between the eyes, and fine lines and pronounced wrinkles may develop across the forehead due to repeated contraction of facial muscles. Exposure to harsh sunlight has a cumulative effect that becomes especially apparent in the forties and fifties.
Facial wrinkles treatment for the forehead and brow
Anti-wrinkle injections, dermal fillers and skin hydration boosters are three potential facial wrinkles treatments for reducing lines and wrinkles in the upper face and improving its appearance.
Anti-wrinkle injections work by relaxing targeted facial muscles, temporarily improving the appearance of moderate to severe wrinkles formed by repeated facial expressions. They may be used to reduce the appearance of frown lines (glabellar lines) – the two vertical creases that typically grow in prominence on the brow as we age. Dermal fillers, meanwhile, may be used to reduce the prominence of fine lines and wrinkles in the forehead. And skin hydration boosters are used to increase hydration in areas that feel dry, that have lost elasticity, or where fine lines and wrinkles have started to appear, such as the forehead.
