Eye Area
It’s often said that the eyes are the window to the soul. No other feature of the face communicates emotion so clearly, from a stolen glance to a penetrating stare. However, the effects of ageing and harsh physical environments may change the appearance of our eyes over time.
The effect of ageing around the eyes
Natural compounds including collagen, hyaluronic acid and elastin help to give young skin its full and firm appearance. From our twenties onwards, production of these compounds steadily decreases, leading to a loss of elasticity and firmness and the formation of wrinkles. In our thirties and forties, crow’s feet may form at the edge of the eyes and on the temples. At the same time, the loss of fat pads in the face can lead to a loss of volume. This can result in hollowing under the eyes and dark under-eye bags. Exposure to harsh sunlight has a cumulative effect that becomes especially apparent in the forties and fifties.
Aesthetic treatments
for the eye area
Dermal fillers, anti-wrinkle injections and skin hydration boosters are three potential aesthetic treatments for eye bags to improve the appearance of the skin surrounding the eyes.
Dermal fillers are used to treat both crow’s feet and under-eye bags. When placed in the deeper layers of the skin, dermal fillers provide a consistency that is soft and yet firm enough to retain volume and shape. Anti-wrinkle injections, meanwhile, work by relaxing targeted facial muscles, temporarily improving the appearance of moderate to severe wrinkles formed by repeated facial expressions. They may be used to reduce the appearance of crow’s feet. Skin hydration boosters are used to increase hydration in areas that feel dry, that have lost elasticity, or where fine lines and wrinkles (such as crow’s feet) have started to appear.
